New Year's Eve
In what was an initially one-time planned event to celebrate the coming of a New Year, the culminating event of the year 2007 when the Delta Area celebrated its 100th birthday, quickly became such a success that it has become an annual event-providing for a safe, fun and family-themed environment for area residents to enjoy. The Millard County School District is kind enough to offer the Delta High School Palladium as the venue for this event. Games for children are offered, and inflatable devices for them to play upon too. With the program varying a bit each year, you can count on their being some sort of a concert, perhaps a magician, dancing, and even our own local version of the hit TV show game "Deal or No Deal." The concluding event of the evening is the dropping of the ball from atop the Water Tower in the City's Public Works Maintenance Yard followed by fireworks to bring in the New Year as the clock ticks over to 12:00 a.m.
At the Delta City Council's meeting on January 19, 2017 the event, now having been held annually since New Year's Eve 2006 was discussed. Given that the next New Year's Eve, 2017 falls upon a Sunday, the Council, at this time, has elected to not have a celebration this coming year. The cost, attendance and other issues related to the event are being evaluated by the City Council.
